His colleagues present this token of their esteem and of their gratitude for his mastery of the field of radiation oncology and contributions to the clinical investigation of cancer, providing hope and relief of suffering for tens of thousands of patients; for his thoughtful and compassionate approach and concern for patients and the impact of a cancer diagnosis on their life; for his attentive care, a source of comfort to the patient and an emulative example to scores of trainees and colleagues; for his tireless visionary leadership as chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, member of the Mayo Clinic Florida Executive Board, member of the MCF Executive Operations team, Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees and Mayo Clinic Board of Governors; for his innovation in transforming the practice of radiation oncology and for being instrumental in bringing Carbon Ion Therapy to Mayo Clinic Florida as the first in North America; for his humility and guiding principal to put the needs of the patient first; for his love of family and his family’s continued legacy within Mayo Clinic of his daughter, son and son-in law; and for his steadfast loyalty to that living body of high principles that were initiated by the Founders, William James Mayo, M.D., and Charles Horace Mayo, M.D., and that now clearly are recognized as the ideals of Mayo Clinic.
