Her colleagues present this token of their esteem and of their gratitude for her resilience as a female pioneer in the field of anesthesiology and the Mayo Clinic Department of Anesthesiology; for her mastery of the field of obstetric anesthesia resulting in safe and satisfying childbirth experiences for innumerable women; for her visionary leadership in obstetric anesthesia, in graduate medical anesthesia education and for the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center; for her personal clinical service to the sick in Louisiana, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, and Tanzania; for her dedication to science, her rigorous scepticism, and her tireless acquisition of evidence-based knowledge in all areas of medicine and science; for her independent thought and speaking truth, even when the truth is unpopular; for her exemplary teaching recognized by the awards Distinguished Educator of the Year and Excellence in Teaching Recognition; for her sharp sense of humor that delighted her colleagues, especially her friends; for sharing insights, prayers and wisdom with the physicians who came after her, especially women facing personal challenges; for her enduring love for her husband and daughter both of whom have similarly dedicated their lives to healing the sick; and for her steadfast loyalty to that living body of high principles that were initiated by the Founders, William James Mayo, M.D., and Charles Horace Mayo, M.D., and that now clearly are recognized as the ideals of Mayo Clinic.
