His colleagues present this token of their esteem and of their gratitude for his international recognition as an expert in Aerospace, Sleep and Psychiatric Medicine where he made Mayo Clinic a national resource for aerospace psychiatry and served NASA in astronaut selection; for being a visionary in healthcare accreditation; for his leadership as President, Minnesota Board of Medical Practice; for his service to the Clinical Practice Committee, Hospital Practice Committee, and for chairing the Addiction, Tertiary Care, and Consultation Divisions in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology; for being the first Medical Director of the Psychiatry and Psychology Treatment Center; for his service on many Boards; and for achieving the ranks of Distinguished Life Fellow, American Psychiatric Association, Fellow of American College of Psychiatrists and Civil Aviation Medical Association; for his service as a psychiatrist to the World Scout Jamboree; for his positive, cheerful spirit; for his love of family, amateur radio, running, and intellectual pursuits; for his quirky humor; and for his steadfast loyalty to that living body of high principles that were initiated by the Founders, William James Mayo, M.D., and Charles Horace Mayo, M.D., and that now clearly are recognized as the ideals of Mayo Clinic.
